Delhi school of Excellence Attapur, celebrated October 31st , the 144nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’-National Unity Day, in the school campus as a tribute to the efforts of the country’s First Home Minister and also the Deputy Prime Minister, to unite India.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was introduced by the Government of India and inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. Since then, this day is celebrated every year on 31st October to commemorate the birth-anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel -the Iron Man of India.
The day was celebrated at DSE Attapur, in a befitting manner wherein students of Grade 7C presented their class assembly on the topic ‘NATIONAL UNITY DAY’ and the message of unity and integrity of the country was conveyed by the students in the form of a spectacular dance performance and a talk on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The student speakers expressed their views on the contribution of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel for the unity, safety and security of India. It was followed by the unity pledge, wherein the students and teachers took a pledge to stand for unity and integrity of the country.
Speaking on the occasion the Principal, Mr. Augustine Thomas, expressed the outstanding contributions made by Sardar Vallabhai Patel to promote the cause of national unity and integrity to strengthen the fabric of the country as One Nation.
Multitude activities were organized all through the day to support the cause of promoting unity and celebrating “National Unity Day” in the school premises. Students of PP took part enthusiastically in a colouring activity on the theme of Unity. Students of Grades I and II participated in a fancy dress showcasing various regional attires of India and made a map of India standing along the states which they were representing. A food festival- United food of India-Zayka Bharat ka-was organized by the students of Grades III and IV who displayed regional dishes from diverse parts of India. A Poster Making and Essay writing competition was conducted for the students of Grades V and VI and VII and VIII respectively.
The students of Grades 9 and 10 enthusiastically participated in the “Run for Unity”, a short marathon around the premises of the school to evoke the spirit of integrity. Enroute their run they carried a spirited message for cohesive and unified India. Their loud chants boosted the morale of the bystanders, many of them joining the students in the slogan raising.
It was a perfect tribute to the ‘Iron Man’ on his anniversary.
The programme culminated with thoughtful and inspirational messages about national security and communal harmony to maintain the cohesive peace and unity among the citizens of our country.
