Mindful parenting is the hardest job on the planet, but it’s also one that has the potential for the deepest kinds of satisfactions over the life span, and the greatest feelings of interconnectedness and belonging
‘Mindful Parenting’ by Pepstudy was organised for the parents on the DSE virtual platform on 29th May, 2021. Parenting has become more challenging during the pandemic. Taking serious note of the parenting gaps adversely affecting children in their growing stage and acknowledging the importance of safeguarding the mental well-being of children during the crisis, the speaker, Mr. Indeevar Varma, stressed on the role of parents in ensuring a psychosocial and social-emotional environment, that supports children’s development and eudaemonia. As parents, it is important to stay grounded, calm and be responsible. Balancing screen time, learning from children and letting them learn from parents are some of the solutions to ensure psychosocial and social-emotional supportive environment. The webinar speakers answered to the queries from the audience that addressed some common concerns about mood swings, bad eating habits, excessive screen time and many more – all of which Mr Varma very patiently answered. He suggested engaging children in positive and creative things, appreciate them when needed, sharing things with them and being good listeners to them as some of the solutions. A mindful approach to parenting can help children and their parents feel happier, healthier, calmer, and less stressed in our frenetic era. It is very important to lie low down, model mindfulness, and stay connected as a family.
