Delhi School of Excellence, Banjara Hills, was the venue of a workshop conducted by in-house Resource Person, Ms. Uma Shankar, for all the English teachers of DSE on 23rd April, 2019. To equip teachers for enhancing students’ learning, LSRW skills, ice-breakers, grammar games, memory games, mind mapping, and classroom management techniques were discussed in the workshop.
In continuation of Delhi School of Excellence’s initiative of conducting in-house training by the IT department for all teachers to upgrade their skills in MS Word, DSE, Manikonda, conducted a Computer workshop for teachers of Grades III to X on 18th April, 2019. The primary focus was to make the teachers aware of the various features of MS Word applications to write the worksheets. Post lunch, the teachers were given small tasks for practice. On 20th April, 2019, the teachers were administered an online quiz on MS Word and certificates of participation were given to all. As a means of encouragement, the first and second top scorers of the quiz were awarded gadgets that would help them in their day-to-day work. The management also gave token of appreciation to IT head, Ms. Padmavathi and all the members of Computer department.
Delhi School of Excellence, Banjara Hills, was the venue for a workshop for Social Science teachers on 17th April, 2019. It was organized by Macmillan and Resource Person, Dr.Pallavi Chandel conducted the workshop. Dr.Pallavi Chandel, a PhD holder in Modern Indian History, imparted the art of teaching Social Science to students and how students are prepared for the 21st century. The role of an effective Social Science teacher (using student-centric approach) and a new classroom pedagogy were also introduced for effective teaching.
Viva workshop for Pre-Primary teachers was organized in Delhi School of Excellence, Banjara Hills on 16th April, 2019. It was conducted by Ms. Maria Patrick, who is a content developer for pre-school and primary segment for various publications. The workshop incorporated techniques to upgrade teaching skill set and designing activities for students for raising and sustaining their interest. The four basic LSRW learning skills and developing a child’s fine motor skills were included in the activities. Teaching phonic sounds, pre-math concepts, increasing students’ vocabulary, and utilizing puppets for storytelling were also discussed.

Delhi School of Excellence endeavors to equip teachers with necessary tools to upgrade their teaching skills. In line with this, Orient BlackSwan organized a workshop for English teachers in DSE, Banjara Hills on 15th April, 2019. It was conducted by Resource Person from Orient BlackSwan, Ms Ramalakshmi Das. The interesting and informative workshop was about teaching creative writing to students. The highlight was the use of performing arts to enhance language skills among students.

मधुबन प्रकाशन की ओर से हर वर्ष की भांति हिंदी भाषा के विकास व बदलती प्रणालियों के शिक्षण हेतु शिक्षण कौशल विकास परिसंवाद कार्यशाळा ‘टाइम्स स्क्वायर’ – लैंड मार्क होटल सिकंदराबाद परिसर में 18 दिसंबर 2018 को आयोजित की गई थी I कार्यशाला का संचालन मधुबन पाठ्य पुस्तक के लेखक प्रो. सैय्यद मतीन अहमद जी ने किया I इस कार्यशाला में अनेक मनोरंजक व ज्ञानवर्धक जानकारियाँ दी गई जो NCERT के उद्देश्यों को पूरा करने में और हिंदी शिक्षकों के लिए शिक्षण को रुचिकर बनाने में लाभकारी हैं I
कार्यशाला का मुख्य उद्देश्य हिंदी भाषा के रूप, भाषा के कौशल, पाठ्य पुस्तक के उद्देश्य, बालक की रुचियों, बालक की क्षमताओं, व्याकरण शिक्षण की मनोरंजक पद्धतियों, सृजनात्मक लेखन की विधियों, आधुनिक तकनीक का हिंदी भाषा शिक्षण में प्रभावशाली प्रयोग आदि विषयों पर विस्तृत जानकारी दी गई I मधुबन प्रकाशन की नवीन पाठ्य पुस्तकों ‘अनुप’, ‘मधुकिरण’, ‘व्याकरण वाटिका’, ‘नूतन’, ‘गुंजन’ ‘व्याकरण अभिव्यक्ति’ आदि के विषय में अनेका- अनेक जानकारियाँ भी दी गई | विभिन्न विद्यालयों के अध्यापक –अध्यापिकाओं को अपने विचारों, अनुभवों की अभिव्यक्ति और शिक्षण चुनौतियों पर चर्चा और समाधान के लिए खुला मंच प्रस्तुत किया गया | हिंदी भाषा शिक्षण को रोचक बनाने के लिए यह एक लाभकारी कार्यशाला रही | इस कार्यशाला में हमारे विद्यालय डी. एस. ई. बंजाराहिल्स की प्राथमिक और माध्यमिक कक्षाओं की अध्यापिका सुधा भंडारी और रेणुका जी ने भाग लिया और अपने अनुभव से संपूर्ण हिंदी विभाग को लाभान्वित किया |
Karadipath- Power English Training Session for teachers (PP to Grade 2)
The Karadipath-Power English Teacher Training workshop was conducted on 3rd November, 2018 to facilitate the teachers with the updated version of Karadipath. It was a very interactive session where the teachers posed few queries regarding conducting Power English sessions in the classes. Mr. Michael, the trainer for Karadipath, gave a feedback based on the series of observations done in the classes and briefed about the language learning process and how it helps the child to derive language from a variety of inputs using the three skills (visual, auditory and kinesthetic). He emphasized on the intuitive process by which the mother-tongue is acquired. He also explained the motive behind starting each module with Focus. It is reminded that through Karadipath learning English happens subconsciously. The session concluded with demonstration of the updated version of Karadipath for better implementation of Power English sessions.
With a mission to inspire and equip every child with the tools and techniques to enhance their cognitive functioning for achieving personal excellence, a ‘Cognitive Skills Workshop’ has been conducted by Times NIE at DSE, Banjara Hills for Grade 7 and Grade 8 to help them overcome the issues of distraction, lack of interest, learning disability, behavioural issue, stress, lack of confidence and pressure. It was a brain training programme for the children which helped them to enhance their cognitive foundation elements such as focus, observation, comprehension, intuition, memory, confidence and empathy.
On 27th of September Ms. Kavitha and Ms. Latha attended the seminar conducted by Edvantage on the topic cultivating 21st Century Skills through Multiple Intelligence at Glendale Academy. The seminar focused on the four C’s of education namely Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity. The keynote suggested that following the Multiple Intelligence tool every teacher could build the fifth C namely the character of a student. The seminar provided an insight to equip the teachers towards a global K-12 education process.
Sri Laxmi Narayan Reddy and his team addressed the students of grade 7,8, and 10. He made the students understand the importance of maintaining traffic rules. He also gave statistics account of atleast seven complaints against the minors on a daily basis is being received.A video on traffic awareness, was shown to the students to make them aware of the serious condition related to rash driving by minors. He stressed that self responsibility should be developed amongst the students. He insisted that all need to obey the traffic rules for a better society and a better city.
It’s a competitive world, with many career options available these days, making it difficult to choose.
A workshop was held for grades 8,9 &10 on career counseling by the Learn-Ed Team. The workshop equipped children with the tools that can help them choose a career that is appropriate for them. Choosing a career depends on one’s interest and capabilities. The students were active participants and clarified all their doubts with regard to choosing the road ahead.
A workshop on Road Safety was conducted by Mr. Sanjay of Indian Development Foundation Organization on 2nd August 2018. The workshop was about road safety awareness. Clippings of the some road safety signs were shown to children and asked to identify them. They also explained about the importance of wearing helmet and fascinating the seat belt. It was very interesting and helpful to the students to understand how important it was to wear helmet. It was a very informative and a necessary workshop for student that gave insights to safe driving.
21st of July 2018 saw a stream of young mothers at the school campus for an extremely special and unique session – Mother Child Brain activation, by the eminent educator Mr. Darpan Vasudev. The objective of the session was to sensitize the Mothers of young kids for the unintentional mistakes they make while raising their children, and how to unlearn some of them. He also harped through on the negative effects of child to child comparisons, being exceedingly worried about academic performance, and instructing vs sensitizing the children. The insight he gave on child’s spiritual and emotional well being, was a revelation. . His extremely unique tips on communication and confidence building mesmerized the entire gathering of young mothers.All the participants were very emotional and thanked the management for this wonderful session.

A workshop on ‘Leadership’ was conducted for the student council by the Academic Director Ms. Shashikala and the counselor together, to empower the students to take charge of their responsibilities and help create a healthy supportive environment at school. It was an interactive session with activities that helped students to understand the importance of a leader and the essential qualities of a leader were highlighted so that they learn to imbibe the needed qualities.Children are to be prepared for the future so that they are ready to take up challenges that come their way. These responsibilities that they are shouldered with will help them to lead their peers and help create a disciplined environment at school.The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and stated to carry their responsibilities efficiently.

Workshop on Karadi Path-Power English training program for teachers
The reopening day after the energising summer vacation for the teachers of Delhi School of Excellence Banjara Hills witnessed a grand welcome by the Principal Ms.Veena Murty. The meeting began with the result analysis of AISSE 2017-18.
The session continued with an interactive workshop for teachers that was conducted by Ms Shivani the school counselor- “Make a Difference” on the varied methods of classroom management.The teachers got an insight into the various techniques to handle classroom scenarios .The workshop also helped teachers to handle issues of Emotional Quotient.
The afternoon session continued with Extramarks session giving solutions to the subject presentation techniques.
Heartfulness-A training session was organised by Uma Subbaram on April 27th 2018. The workshop provided an insight into techniques of meditation through which self-awareness and relaxation could be attained. The teachers participated enthusiastically and learnt the step by step technique of meditation to achieve the benefits of being calm and relaxed.
On 24th April, 2018 a productive workshop on ‘Effective teaching in Science’ was conducted by Mr Nitesh babu, from Collins publications for DSE group of Institutions.
Mr Nitesh has introduced teachers to novel strategies that can be included in a lesson plan as an extension to the regular plans. It was like an ‘ Old Wine in A New Bottle’, with innovative methods like Round Robin, Gallery Walk,Think Pair Share, etc,.which were creative additions to our regular class room activities like flash cards, group discussions and role play.
The 7E instructional model to set learning objectives was informative. The workshop has invoked the idea of maximum participation of a child in learning Science.
S. Chand publishers conducted a progressive English workshop on 21 April. The English teachers of all the three branches attended the workshop. The resource person Ms. Renu Anand provided the insights. Ms.Renu Anand has been recommending curriculums that conforms to the vision of the National Curriculum Framework and the uniform pattern of examination. The Vice-Principal of Manikonda Ms.Amruta welcomed Ms.Renu Anand.
Teaching prose and poems effectively, and ways of improving the writing skills (story and letter) of children were the topics for the workshop. The highlight of this workshop was doing the task in-group. The workshop took off with a technique of teaching a prose to the students in which she suggested showing them the video before starting a lesson. All the teachers were divided into groups to understand the techniques to be inculcated in the classroom. For instance, for an informal letter three groups were made. The first group wrote the introduction, the second group wrote the reason and the third group wrote the conclusion. The workshop ended with story writing which was filled with fun. The workshop provided a great learning to all the attendees.
Resource Person- Ms. Jharna De-Author Maths Spark conducted a very informative and thought provoking workshop on 19 April 2018. The teachers of all the group schools of DSE were present for the workshop. Ms. Jharna De has over 37 years of experience in the field of Mathematics and has been on the NCERT Textbook Panel. The workshop enlightened the teachers on the unanswered questions of many students as to where some concepts of mathematics are used and how they can be helpful in daily life etc. Many activities were conducted based on topics such as HCF and LCM, Factor Tree, Integers, Algebra, Geometry Based Activities on 3D Shapes and Finding Angles. Informative videos on how to keep trying in life and accept change gracefully was shown. The teachers found the insights very useful and planned to implement the same in their classrooms.

Synthetic Phonics workshop was an enriching experience for the teachers. The resource person Ms Saswati Nanda Satpathy was not only competent with the subject but also had an energetic way of presenting it. The workshop was extremely educative and enjoyable. The workshop included the techniques for teaching phonics to early learners for enhancing their reading abilities with continuous practice that equipped the teachers to get comfortable with the techniques and strategies to teach phonics. 40 teachers attended the workshop from the three school branches teaching in the pre- primary and primary school wings.
The workshop spelled out the importance of Phonics with easy to learn curriculum. Phonics is a fun and child centered approach to teach literacy. The teachers learnt the actions for each of the 40 letter sounds through the popular multi-sensory method that was quite motivating for them. The letter sounds were split into seven groups. Letter Sound Order, where the sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically). This enabled the teachers to learn the technique of teaching children to begin building words as early as possible. As Phonics works, using a synthetic phonics approach, Phonics teaches children the five key skills for reading and writing.
The workshop proved to be beneficial for the staff members as they found it to be a great course with an abundance of ideas for active methodology. Ms Saswati Nanda presented information surrounding the five basic skills along with helpful teacher activities and an overview of materials and resources. The teachers were excited and felt confident to begin using Phonics in their classes.
